Nestled between the world’s largest hydrocarbon producers and the hungry markets of Europe, Turkey is taking decisive steps in cementing its role as an energy transit hub. The Nabucco gas pipeline received a huge boost when the intergovernmental agreement was signed in July 2009, setting down a legal framework for future operations. Bidding on transit contracts takes place in 2010, a decisive juncture for the project. The Mediterranean port of Ceyhan continues its build-up as an energy crossroads, with a third major international oil pipeline heading its way.

Within Turkey, major Asian energy firms are eying joint ventures in refineries, coal and nuclear, and the privatisation of Turkey’s gas distribution networks is nearing completion. Upstream, 2010 could be the biggest year yet in Turkey’s struggle for energy independence. ExxonMobil is investing heavily in exploration with Turkish Petroleum, and Brazilian giant Petrobras, pioneers of ultra-deep water drilling, are also bringing their expertise to the Black Sea.

There is one place to find all the stats, facts, and interviews with key decision makers you need to understand this vibrant emerging energy market: The Oil & Gas Year, Turkey 2010.
