Farouk Al Zanki was named Man of the Year during a ceremony at his office in Kuwait City on Feburary 6, 2012. The current deputy-chairman and CEO of state-owned hydrocarbons entity the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Al Zanki is a petroleum engineer by training with significant experience in the downstream sector. One of Kuwait’s notable oil and gas industry leaders, he has emphasised the importance of the company’s 2030 Development Plan, which aims to develop the country’s exports, production and refined products in a sustainable and integrated way.
Ernest Nwapa was presented with Man of the Year award on February 23, 2012, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. Nwapa is the executive secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, which oversees efforts to boost Nigerian participation in the local workforce and to build co-operation between the private and public sectors to create more employment in the country. Following the passing of the Nigerian Content Development Act of 2010, Nwapa played a key role in mediating between local and multinational companies as well as the government.
The Man of the Year award for Bahrain 2011 was awarded to Faisal Al Mahroos, the CEO of the Bahrain Petroleum Company. Following 35 years service to the state-owned company, Al Mahroos took over the Bahrain Petroleum Company in 2009 and in his time as chief executive, he has overseen Bapco’s transition from head operator of Bahrain’s oil industry to supervisor of upstream activities. With Tatweer Petroleum taking control of the onshore Bahrain Field, Bapco has supplied the new consortium with 350 skilled workers and has applied greater focus on upcoming projects, including the upgrade of the refinery in Sitra. Al Mahroos was given the award on December 18, 2011 in Bahrain at the Gulf Hotel.
The Oil & Gas Year Qatar 2011 saw Dr. Ibrahim Al Ibrahim awarded man of the year. He has been an economic advisor to the office of the Emir of Qatar since 1988 and one of the key architects of Qatar’s Vision 2030. In 2006, Dr. Al Ibrahim was appointed Secretary General for the General Secretariat for Development and Planning and led the organisation to launch its first National Development Strategy in March 2011. It targets specific priorities and lays out a five-year roadmap. Al Ibrahim has previously been a Senior Economist at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and currently serves on the boards of Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, Industries Qatar, RasGas and Qatar Central Bank.
Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima was chosen as The Oil and Gas Year Equatorial Guinea 2011 man of the year. The Delegate Minister for Mines, Industry and Energy in Equatorial Guinea, Lima has spearheaded a national effort to revitalise the country’s oil and gas industry, create a long-term sustainability through midstream and downstream initiatives and procure international players for new exploration activities, creating many partnerships between the government and multinational companies. Minister Lima has pushed the agenda forward by attending a number of major conferences worldwide including the Gulf of Guinea Oil and Gas Conference in Ghana in September 2011.
Raoul Restucci, Managing Director of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), was announced The Oil & Gas Year Oman 2011 Man of the Year. Since taking over management of Oman’s joint venture oil and gas company in 2010, Mr. Restucci has overseen PDO’s intensified focus on enhanced oil recovery and unconventional and tight gas production. He has also placed special emphasis on human resources at the flagship national company. The award was presented to Mr. Restucci at his office at the PDO headquarters in Muscat on March 15, 2011.
S. Sundareshan, Secretary of Petroleum of India, has been selected as The Oil & Gas Year, India 2010 Man of the Year.
S. Sundareshan formulated the terms for the New Exploration Licensing Policy round nine and has been one of the driving forces behind the reform of the petrol and diesel pricing systems, amongst other achievements.
The award was granted at a ceremony held on January 25, 2011, in S. Sundareshan’s office at the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas in New Delhi.

On October 4, 2011, Wildcat Publishing launched The Oil & Gas Year Equatorial Guinea in Malabo. Thelaunch ceremony featured speeches from Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, the Minister for Mines, Industry and Energy and N.J. Ayuk, managing partner of Centurion Law Firm as well as Regional Director for TOGY, Guillaume Doane. The book was well received by the attendees of the launch which included members of press and a number of the interviewees appearing in the book. The Oil & Gas Year Mexico 2011 was launched in May 2011 during a press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mexico City. Gustavo Hernandez Garcia, subdirector of planning and evaluation for Pemex, declared the book the official reference guide to Mexico oil and gas. The book was produced in partnership with Pemex and ProMexico, and in collaboration with the Mexican Institute of Petroleum, Navix, and Heftye y Soria law firm.
Wildcat Publishing announced the release of The Oil & Gas Year Oman 2011 in March. The book, which was produced in partnership with Petroleum Development Oman, Oman Oil Company and industry association OPAL, was launched by HE Khalifa Al Hinai of the Ministry of Oil and Gas to energy executives and journalists at the Bustan Palace in Muscat. The Oil & Gas Year Oman 2011 describes and examines Oman's progress in enhanced oil recovery, tight gas, power sector reforms and industrial development, and is Wildcat Publishing's first book on the country.
In March 2011, The Oil & Gas Year, in partnership with the KRG Ministry of Natural Resources, announced the release of The Oil & Gas Year Kurdistan Region of Iraq 2011. The launch was attended by Minister of Natural Resources Dr. Ashti Hawrami, who described to assembled diplomats, oil executives and journalists an exceptional past three years of discoveries, tapping an estimated 45 billion barrels of oil and 2.8 trillion-5.6 trillion cubic metres of gas. The event was also attended by KRG Prime Minister Barham Salih at which The Oil & Gas Year’s Man of the Year award was presented to Genel Enerji’s Mehmet Sepil.

In November 2010, The Oil & Gas Year took part in the Petrotech 2010 Lifetime Achievements and Excellence Awards in New Delhi. Along with the Ministry of Petroleum and Resources, it announced the release of The Oil & Gas Year India 2010. The publication provides a close examination of how the Indian government is confronting the energy needs of one of the fastest growing economies in the world. The book devotes particular emphasis to the New Exploration Licensing Policy rounds and the Krishna-Godavari Basin.
Convened on November 8, 2009, The Oil & Gas Year and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources jointly announced the release of The Oil & Gas Year Egypt 2009. Speaking at the event were two prominent interviewees from the publication: Hady Fahmi, chairman of the Chamber of Petroleum and Mining, and Hisham Fahmy, executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.
